An easy guide to retention in network marketing

Firstly understand the principles of the 80/20 rule. It is said that 80% of the worlds wealth is owned by 20% of the people and that 20% of the people do 80% of the work. In network marketing there will be a dropout rate of 80% of the people sponsored into your business. The members who do drop out of your team is beyond your control but there are ways in which you can stem the flow. If you can learn to live with this fact, this will give you the edge. People join network marketing and stay in the profession do so mainly because they are getting what they want out of the business. Finding out what the person wants out of the business is the first step to helping them on the way to becoming a networking success.

So why do people join this business

1.       Immediate Income

2.       Security

3.       Their own business

4.       More time

5.       Financial freedom

6.       Early retirement and an alternative pension

7.       Sense of belonging and camaraderie

In network marketing we sponsor people not professions, so how do you get your people to stay.

1.       Fast track your new team member with a step by step guide on the things that they would need to do in order to achieve their goals. In the early stages, find out how much they are looking to earn immediately and formulate a business plan based on the averages that the system has in place. All good networks have a proven system and if followed the income will follow. Get them to read the guide book, in our case this would be the Start, Grow and Prosper with Buzz International, otherwise known as the BUZZ book, written by one of the top earners, John Hawkes. The first couple of chapters should suffice at this early stage but should be referred back to time and time again as everything you would want to know about the business is in there. Not only should the new team member read this as part of the course but to take notes and ask questions on anything that comes up in these chapters. Book a convenient time for both parties to enable this to happen, if geography is allowing go and meet your new team member personally, if not then this is done by phone. This is an excellent way of finding out who are serious about the business. If your new team member keeps on phoning you asking questions and wanting to know more the chances are they will stay.

2.       People follow success, by being the best you can possibly be and leading by example you are setting a precedent. Do not leave your new member to fend for themselves, be responsible for them. Take an interest in how they are progressing, if necessary step in and help them out. This does not mean go out there and do their work for them, it is being aware of the challenges people face and reformulating the business plan to suit their needs. Be available at all times, (within reason) and give the new team member a few options of contact, either by landline, mobile, email, text or even a personal meeting.

3.       Motivating your team is a great way of retention and by your own example of success by letting them know of your achievements and progress this allows your team to make the close connection that this is possible for them too. Recognition for small steps achieved either through the Interactive Telephone system you should have in place, at business opportunity meetings and the larger networking events, sending a card of congratulations etc. Coaching the team member and guiding them on how to duplicate your success.

4.       Team synergy – Camaraderie is a phenomenal way you can increase your retention rate. After all network marketing is a people business and people are more comfortable being part of a team. Get your members together frequently, business opportunity meetings are a good way but far better are the relaxed settings of sizzles, usually held at the team leader’s house. Here you can go through the nuts and bolts of the business by running coaching sessions on individual aspects of the business. Sort out any issues or challenges that arise for the team. Get the team out for the day to assist them in building their own network by various forms of lead generation. Create family days out where by the whole family can partake, it doesn’t necessarily have to revolve around business all the time, it is at the end of the day a fun business where you should work smart and play hard.

Become the leader you would wish to follow and recognise your team’s successes. Most of all give the business the time it needs and deserves.
